What Kate Wore to Wimbledon 2022: From Troubled Tour Dress to Polka Dots

As the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) Kate Middleton has worn a number of match-stopping fashions to watch the Wimbledon championships each year.

In 2022, Kate attended three days of the prestigious tournament, once with Prince William, once alone, and a final appearance made with William and eldest son Prince George, who made his first public visit to the famous Centre Court.

On each of her visits Kate’s appearance was widely commented on and praised by the fashion press but what exactly did she wear? Newsweek has the answer.

Men’s Singles Quarterfinals, July 5

For her first appearance at Wimbledon in 2022, Kate attended the men’s singles quarterfinal matches to watch Novak Djokovic win over Jannik Sinner, and then British hopeful Cameron Norrie beat out Belgian opponent David Goffin.

She was accompanied at the matches by Prince William and the pair moved from Centre Court where Djokovic was playing over to the smaller court No.1 where Norrie was playing.

For the occasion, Kate wore a light blue polka dot midi dress by a designer that has become a recent favorite of hers—Alessandra Rich.

The pleated polka dot dress featured three-quarter length sleeves, a high neckline with asymmetric button closure and a covered belt.

Kate wore the dress with a ribbon bow in the colors of the AELTC which she has done with her Wimbledon outfits since becoming patron in 2017.

With her outfit, Kate paired a small white leather handled bag by British luxury leather goods manufacturer, Mulberry, and a pair of white high-heeled sling backs also by Alessandra Rich.

Women’s Singles Finals, July 9

For her second appearance at Wimbledon, this time without Prince William, Kate was the center of attention in a bright yellow midi dress that had last been worn on a controversial royal tour.

The dress, a custom variation of a model named Brigitte by label Roksanda, was debuted during the Cambridges’ widely-criticized tour of the Caribbean in March. Kate wore the dress on her arrival in Jamaica, where a number of PR blunders occurred including poorly-chosen photo opportunities which, compounded by large protests relating to the royal family’s historic links with slavery, did not make for favorable press coverage.

Kate did not seem to tie close associations between the dress and her Jamaican visit, despite the color being a notable nod to that of the Jamaican flag, and against the green background of Wimbledon’s Centre Court she was clearly visible throughout the match between Elena Rybakina and Ons Jabeur.

The duchess wore her Roksanda dress with a pair of white leather Gianvito Rossi high-heeled pumps and Bvlgari sunglasses. When the royal box was in direct sunlight Kate also accessorized her look with a wide-brimmed star hat with a contrasting black band.

Men’s Singles Finals, July 10

The men’s singles final signals the grand finale to the Wimbledon championships and a royal presence at the match has been a feature for many decades.

For the 2022 men’s final between Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios, Kate was accompanied by Prince William and, for the first time during the championships, Prince George, who will celebrate his ninth birthday on July 22.

William and George both attended wearing suits with traditional ties in accordance with the royal box’s dress code. For the match, Kate selected another design by Alessandra rich and another design featuring polka dots.

The dark navy blue design from the brand’s ready-to-wear line harks back to the 1980s and features a peplum waist detail and wide cut collar with a silk tie in the same spotted fabric.

With this dress, the duchess opted for the same Alessandra Rich slingback heels which were worn on her first Wimbledon visit of 2022 and paired these with blue sapphire and diamond jewelry that she has worn many times this year which complimented the sapphire and diamond engagement ring that had once belonged to Princess Diana.

After Djokovic won the championship, he bowed to Kate as she presented him with the famed Wimbledon trophy. Later at a post-match reception, Djokovic was introduced to Prince George who he let hold the trophy. To this Prince William was recorded joking with his son: “Don’t drop it!
